What is copper aqua blasting?
Copper aqua blasting, is the best option for cleaning metal components. As well as copper aqua blasting, the method is highly effective for cleaning most metals, including steel, aluminium, titanium and bronze. The process of copper aqua blasting involves carefully cleaning metal components using a combination of water and a mild abrasive emulsion. This emulsion contains tiny particles that are just 150-200 microns in diameter. If you are not familiar with microns, there are 1000 microns in a single millimetre, so these particles are tiny, perfect for gently polishing and cleaning high performance metal components. The mixture of water and abrasive emulsion is directed at the metal surface at high speed from a nozzle. Very quickly, all contaminants and particles on the surface are cleaned away during the process of copper aqua blasting, including any particles caught in recesses and crevices that would be hard to reach with a brush.
How does metal and copper aqua blasting differ from dry blasting?
Some companies provide a service called dry blasting. This is where a dry abrasive material is sprayed against the surface to strip away the contaminants. Whilst this is useful in some instances, for many metal components, metal and copper aqua blasting is the better option.
On advantage is the speed of the work. Because copper aqua blasting works with water, rather than air, it cleans, polishes and blasts the surface in one go. With dry blasting, there are sometimes extra steps to finish the product, including getting rid of any abrasive dust from the surface of the components. Dry blasting leaves behind dust, but the water in copper aqua blasting washes away all the particles at the same time as blasting the surface.
Another advantage to copper aqua blasting is that it can be used to provide a more gentle, smooth finished effect. Dry blasting forces the abrasive particles into the surface at a high angle, and although the polish the surface and remove deposits, they can also make small scratches on the surface. Wet copper aqua blasting, on the other hand, softens the impact of the particles on the surface, and spreads out the effect. The end result can be a smoother, softer finish.
Another advantage is that with copper aqua blasting, it is easier to control the temperature on the surface. Dry blasting can increase the surface temperature, leading to warping, but the wet copper aqua blasting controls the surface temperature, which makes warping less likely.
